I could not find the called-for quarter-inch clear elastic (only three-eighths inch here in KC). So I used white knit elastic. It worked FANTASTIC for shirring the gathers. Love the method. And it would make for a comfortable waist without the waistband. But as I wrote, it hit really high on me. I left the elastic in the seam when I attached the waistband and didn't trim the other two seam allowances. Guess I should have. I moved the fusible interfacing to the facing to avoid crinkles (although it doesn't want to crack on this fabric). Now the waistband is so stable I have to be super careful taking the dress off, so I don't pop any stitches.
